Become a Volunteer
Volunteers keep the “FREE” in The Free Clinic. Volunteer support keeps costs low, enabling us to provide quality medical, dental and behavioral health care for those who might otherwise go without care.
Free Clinic of Central Virginia has a Centralized Call Center (appointment phone line) to find the best day and time for your visit. Your phone call is very important to us.
If you need dental care, but you don’t have dental insurance, you may be eligible to receive dental care at the Free Clinic.
We believe that everyone should have access to high-quality dental care.
We provide free acute dental care for adults by appointment only on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
• Acute dental care is limited primarily to dental extractions
We provide free basic dental services for adults by appointment only from June through March.
• Basic dental care is provided by Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and Howard University
fourth-year dental students under the supervision of volunteer local dentists
• Basic dental care includes restoration (fillings), extractions, x-rays, and examination
We also provide dental hygiene services for adults by appointment only from August through March.
• Dental hygiene services are provided by provided by Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) dental
hygiene students under the supervision of volunteer local dentists
We currently have an extensive waiting list for other dental services including root canals and crowns. These services are provided only when specific grant funding is available, typically once per year.
We do not provide sedation (local anesthesia only), complex root canals, gum disease treatment, bridges, dentures or braces.
You are most likely eligible if you:
• Are over age 18
• Have household income below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level
• Are not covered by private health insurance
• Are currently living in Virginia
If you are not currently a Free Clinic patient, you must first schedule an Eligibility Screening Interview. Call 434-846-5866 to schedule your screening.
The Free Clinic is not a walk-in clinic. All services are by appointment. Services are provided by volunteers and are limited by the availability of our volunteer providers.
